Services
Create and manage non-person identities for software and automation in your account.
A service is a non-person identity for software or automation that acts within your account. Use a service when software needs its own identity and access.

Service list
The Services screen lists each service's name, description, and status.
You can create a service if you have the create-service permission. A name is required.
Service detail
Open a service to see its name, description, role memberships, and grants.
A role is a named bundle of permissions. A permission is one specific ability. A grant means giving a role or permission to an identity. Learn more in Roles and permissions.
From the service detail page, you can:
- edit the service
- activate or deactivate it
- delete it
- assign or remove roles
- grant or revoke permissions
Service, API key, or user?
Use a user for a person who signs in.
Use a service for software or automation that should have its own identity.
Use an API key as the secret credential a script or tool uses to connect.
Create a service
Open Services
In the Account app, select Services in the left sidebar.
Start creating a service
Select the action to create a new service.
Enter a name
Add a clear name. Add a description if it helps explain what the service is for.
Save the service
Save or confirm the new service.
Give a service a role
Open the service
On the Services screen, select the service you want to update.
Find role memberships
Go to the area that shows the service's roles.
Assign the role
Choose the role you want to add, then save or confirm the change.
